Proposal model |
We are introducing one green axis and a second 'living', inner axis between two strips of buildings, to create a safe, protected residential space. The outer buildings are designed for official and commercial purposes. We want to play with levels, axes and free greenery.

The concept of the proposal is to create a modern residential and office area within the existing city structure, where a human is the main value. Therefore the key aspect of the area is an inner yard, which protects people from traffic sound. The design of buildings is inspired by Rhein river, which runs nearby. They are dynamic and have variable height, just as the river, while inner yards are like river folds, creating cozy atmosphere. The layout assures better insolation, but green roofs extend the area of usable green surfaces. The centre of the area is the "island" of two historical buildings. Together with a pavilion in the park they will house contemporary art exhbition rooms and an atelier.

Concept is based on idea to use Мannheim streets to create new quarters in the cross points of extensions. The developed pattern divided the city in different functional zones. Business area is more opened to the city and to the main road, but residential areas are more private. Recreation zones are isolated from the road, but opened to existing historical buildings. We used large greenery zones to create connection with the park.

The concept of the model is the genesis of the square which is the key element in the city's development. We have focused on sloped roofs in order to achieve better illumination and provide better location for the solar panels. We have kept the suggested traffic system turning John Deere Strasse into a pedestrian way where the light rail connects the Quartier with the rest of the city stressing the sustainability issues. The building blocks are designed to achieve better joint with the green areas and to solve the noise polution by blocking the noise coming from the traffic
